The only way to get better at cycling is to cycle.. the only way to get fit enough to ride lots of miles is to ride lots of miles.. the only way to be able to ride HUGE miles is to ride HUGE miles ….
As a competitive person I chanced around varying aspects of cycle racing soon discovering that on the whole i’m rubbish at short races… where I can do well is where the finish line isn’t a given.. I won’t finish purely by turning up … preparation has to be faultless and the body in good shape.
I spend a huge amount of time cycling …. its all consuming .. if I was to say its the first thing i think of in the morning and the last thing I think of at night I still don’t think that would capture the passion I have for turning pedals .. it controls everything.. its governs my time, my finances and my emotions … my girlfriend can quickly tell when I haven’t ridden enough and is quick to send me out on the bike knowing i’ll return refreshed and with a changed outlook.
